New point-of-care tests COVID-19 antibodies not likely to inform booster program

SSW GP Link Deputy Chair, Dr Michael Tam speaks to newsGP about the (limited) role for the newly announced point-of-care tests for COVID-19 neutralising antibodies in the here and now.

Vaccination is really much more of a population health intervention than individualised care. At a superficial level, a strategic approach of “keeping it simple” of giving boosters based on simpler criteria [eg age cohorts and timing] may remain the most effective way of maximising utility.
